Hey everyone! Last week was National Manufacturing Week, a super exciting celebration of the manufacturing sector that kicks off every year on the first Friday in October. We got the chance to dive into the world of manufacturing through the Manufacturing Week Tours to approved companies approved by Lagcoe, and it was a blast!
From October 4-11, students visited some amazing local companies, including Expro, Digital Machining, Samson Rope, Coastal Machine & Supply, Leading Edge Manufacturing, Blueline Manufacturing, ASH Industries, and more. It was mind-blowing to see what these businesses are doing right here in Lafayette—like building parts for rockets and crucial components for aerospace and pharmaceuticals!
Lagcoe partnered with the Lafayette Economic Development Authority and One Acadiana to provide the FEP (Future Energy Professionals) Scholarship to students from different schools across Acadiana who attend these tours. Getting to learn directly from the pros was such a cool experience. Students asked questions, explored cutting-edge technology, and got a feel for what working in these industries is really like.
Plus, we still have more tours coming up at Acadian Contractors and Offshore Energy Services before December! And here’s the best part: every student who attends these tours can apply for the FEP Scholarship, opening on October 20 and closing on January 6, 2025. It’s a great chance to help us continue our education in STEM!
Overall, the Manufacturing Week Tours were a fantastic way to connect what we learn in the classroom to real-world careers in the energy industry. If you're into STEM, don’t miss out on these awesome tours and the scholarship opportunity!
