The career session is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon at the Cajundome Convention Center, 444 Cajundome Blvd. It aims to provide those entering or re-entering the energy industry with guidance on building a resume, interviewing professionally and effective networking and is open to the public.

Houma-Thibodaux has lost 10,400 jobs over the past two years as a global oil glut and resulting slowdown in drilling has sparked layoffs throughout the local oil-based economy.

Louisiana economist Loren Scott's annual forecast predicts the area, comprised of Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes, will lose another 4,000 jobs next year before stabilizing in 2018.

The career session is part of the group's Education & Innovation Summit, Oct. 26-27. The summit will also include a student research competition, the Energy Innovators Pitch Challenge and the Life of a Well luncheon.

“This event will be a one-stop shop for energy professionals seeking valuable networking opportunities,” Angela Cring, the exposition's executive director, said in a news release.

“The summit as a whole will bring together people from all corners of the industry," she said. "The Career Development and Networking Expo will focus on helping professionals develop an effective job-search strategy with insider tips from industry HR professionals.”

Resume-review stations will be set up with human-resource professionals on hand to provide advice and tips. Participants are encouraged to bring at least one copy of their resume.
