LAFAYETTE, La. (May 13, 2020) – LAGCOE is proud to announce the 2020 winners of the Future Energy Professionals (FEP) scholarship. Recognizing the importance of collegiate majors from disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), LAGCOE has created this scholarship in an effort to attract professional talent capable of maintaining a high level of technical proficiency within the oil & gas industry. The scholarships are awarded to goal-oriented students planning to enroll into a Louisiana University or College in pursuit of a STEM- centric Degree.

Three Louisiana high school students were selected as recipients of this award: Laelah Credeur, Lafayette Christian Academy; William Duke, University Laboratory School; and Logan Paul, Central Private.

The scholarship, managed by Community Foundation of Acadiana, entitles each recipient up to $1,000 per semester while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in one of the STEM fields at a four-year Louisiana university or up to $825 per semester while pursuing a technical degree or certificate at a two-year Louisiana community college or technical school.

Laelah Credeur is a junior at Lafayette Christian Academy who plans to attend Louisiana State University and A&M (LSU) and pursue a Biological Science Doctorate and Secondary Teaching. “In the past, I was certain that my passion was the study of biology, but what I truly desire is to aid others in comprehending the concepts that I was so enthralled by,” Credeur said. “As a teacher, I will be provided the privilege of giving back to Louisiana and impressing a love to knowledge in others. Most importantly, I will be given the privilege of assisting others in discovering and embracing their passion, just like a teacher once guided me.”

William Duke is a senior at University Laboratory School who plans to attend Louisiana State University and A&M (LSU) to pursue Chemical Engineering or Computer Science. “After attending the LAGCOE conference and technical exposition last fall, I realized there are many more uses for computer science in the oil and gas field than I originally thought, and there will be plenty of options to stay and work in Louisiana. While I do not have my career totally mapped out at this juncture of my life, I am certain it will be in a STEM related field, and that I will become a productive member of society, using my skills to help others,” Duke said.

Logan Paul is a senior at Central Private who plans to attend Baton Rouge Community College to pursue Process Technology (PTEC). “My future plans include beginning at BRCC to obtain a degree in the PTEC program. BRCC is close to my home and I will be able to save money and work while I attend college. After graduating, I plan to begin working and pursue a higher degree in business or engineering,” Paul said.
